4.20.17 - Attorney Swanson to present at American Bankruptcy Institute Annual Meeting

Attorney Paul Swanson is one of the panel presentors Best Practices in Consumer Bankruptcy at the Annual Meeting of the American Bankruptcy Institute to be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 in Washington DC. The focus of the panel discussion is How to Minimize Your Consumer Malpractice Risk. From the first contact with a client until the entry discharge order and the closing of the case, risks for consumer malpractice claims abound. The presentation will address minimizing those risks, including properly engaging the client, effectively gathering the information necessary to adequetly comply with the myriad requirements and disclosures necessary to successfully commence and conclude a consumer bankruptcy case, and guard against other hazards that could create problems for the client and representing attorney. The panel discussion will be moderated by Karen L. Kellet of Kellet & Bartholow PLLC; Dallas and will include the Honorable Bruce A. Harwood, U.S. Bankruptcy Court (D.N.H.) Manchester, considered a luminary in the field of bankruptcy law.

In related news Attorney Swanson will present on the Intricacies of a Chapter 12 Farm Bankruptcy at the State Bar Northwestern Wisconsin Bankruptcy Institute to be held in Eau Claire on Friday, April 28, 2017. Topics covered will include: Knowing what to do when preparing to file a Chapter 12, Understanding when filing Chapter 12 may be appropriate, Learning the implications of filing for Chapter 12 bankruptcy protection may have on a debtor, and Exploring the role fo the Chapter 12 Trustee.

Attorney Swanson is the President-Elect for the State Bar Association of Wisconsin. His term as President of the State Bar begins in June.
