History & Evolution of the Firm

Established in 1977, our firm has been providing legal services throughout Northeast Wisconsin for over 30 years. Our founding partners; Wayne Chaney, Jack Steinhilber, Tom Nesbitt and Vern Swanson started the firm with the intention of creating a law firm that offered a wide range of services, by recruiting attorneys with diverse interests and skill sets. As time progressed the partners and the firm name has evolved, but the original intent of the founders has remained the same.

Today, the firm is well recognized and respected and enjoys a solid base with four partners well regarded in their areas of expertise: Paul Swanson, Brian Mares, Doug Marone, and J. Thomas McDermott. In addition, the firm has three associates experienced and dedicated in their unique practice areas. With seven attorneys and a team of para-legal professionals, Steinhilber, Swanson, Mares, Marone, & McDermott are prepared to meet the many legal challenges faced by individuals, families and businesses.

Awards & Recognitions

Mr. Swanson, a board certified bankruptcy attorney, has been recognized as one of the top attorneys in Wisconsin by Super Lawyers Magazine five times since 2005, with the most recent recognition coming in 2010. This recognition places Swanson in the top five percent of the practice area he was recognized for which is Bankruptcy & Creditors/Debtor Rights.

Community Involvement

Individually each attorney contributes to his/her community and is active in a variety of charitable and community organizations. Collectively the firm chooses one or two organizations or causes, which we support for one year. This may be in volunteer hours, contributions, support at a fundraiser, or by sponsoring a charitable fund raising event. For 2010 the firm has chosen to support Leadership Oshkosh and Gifts from the Heart.
