Steinhilber, Swanson, Mares, Marone & McDermott welcomes Rebecca Westphal and Heather Saladin to the firm.

Rebecca Westphal joins the firm as the Business Manager. Westphal will be responsible for Accounting and Finances, Human Resources, Marketing, and Facilities Management. Previous to joining the firm, Westphal worked for Fox Cities Construction, and Clifton Gunderson LLP. She is a native of Rosendale and attended Carthage College graduating with BA degrees in accounting and business administration.

Westphal is active in her community, serving as Council President, for Peace Lutheran Church in Rosendale; as a performer, director and board member for the Rosendale Brandon Community Theater Group; and is a co-owner of Bluemkes in Rosendale and Ripon, with her family.

Heather Saladin joins the firm as an assistant to Attorney Paul Swanson, specializing in corporate and consumer bankruptcy. Most recently she was with Sorenson Law Office, Ripon. Saladin comes to the firm with over seven years of experience in the legal field. She attended Carol University, Waukesha graduating with a BA in English with a minor in Business Administration. Saladin and her husband reside in Oshkosh.

 

McDermott Honored for Education Efforts

J. Thomas (Tom) McDermott was honored March 21 with the Oshkosh Chamber's Education Leadership Award.

The award was given during Celebrate Education, an event sponsored by the Oshkosh Chamber, the Oshkosh Area School District, Mid-Morning Kiwanis, Wisconsin Public Service Corp. and the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation.

McDermott was among exceptional educators, administrators and volunteers honored that evening. After graduating from the 1993 Leadership Oshkosh class, McDermott began volunteering for the Oshkosh Area School District by serving on parent advisory committees and school site councils.

He then decided his talents would be best put to use by serving on the Oshkosh Area School Board. He has served on the board since 2002. McDermott will end his tenure on the board this spring as he has chosen not to seek re-election.

"Tom has proven to be a pragmatic, solution-oriented asset on the board," said Cecil Streeter, education coordinator for the Oshkosh Chamber. "Tom is a positive force for quality."

 

Steinhilber Firm Supports Gifts from the Heart

In the spirit of Christmas and the season of giving, Law Firm Steinhilber, Swanson, Mares, Marone, and McDermott chose the 18th Annual “Gifts from the Heart” sponsored by the Oshkosh Police Department as their charity of choice for the holiday season.

The firm collectively purchased gifts for 14 children and honored a special request for one family in need. The attorneys and the support staff each selected one of the children presented to them by the program. The children are identified only by age and gender along with a “Wish List”.

This is the second year the firm has chosen to purchase gifts for Gifts from the Heart program, as the staff collectively felt it was a better use of their dollars, than a traditional office Christmas party.

The purchased gifts are dropped off wrapped or unwrapped at the Police Department, or Stannard Dry Cleaner locations. The unwrapped gifts are then wrapped and all the gifts are delivered in the annual Wrap & Deliver day this year held at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Education Building. Cash donations or in-kind donations are also welcomed.

The “Gifts from the Heart” program is celebrating their 18th year of giving gifts to children enrolled in the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Head Start pre-school program and their siblings. To learn more about the program visit

Swanson Named "Super Lawyer" and Sought After Speaker

Attorney Paul Swanson was recognized as a “2010 Wisconsin Super Lawyer” by Super Lawyers Magazine.

Attorneys are nominated by their peers and then evaluated based upon 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. The indicators include such things as verdicts, settlements, experience, honors, special licenses and certifications, position within a law firm, other professional activity and pro bono and community service.

This recognition places Swanson in the top five percent of the practice area he was recognized for, which is Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights. Swanson Named to Position of Distinction

Attorney Paul Swanson was elected to the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors for the Wisconsin State Bar for a one year term, which ends June 30, 2011. His term runs concurrent with his term on the Board of Governors of the State Bar.

The State Bar manages and directs the acitivites of the State Bar of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin State Bar has been considered by the American Bar Association as one of the most innovative, productive and service oriented bars in the country. The distinction is due in part to the strong volunteerism among Wisconsin lawyers, and their dedication to maintaining high standards within their profession.

Swanson, a partner in his firm, represents individuals and businesses in financial reorganizations, restructurings, bankruptcy, receiverships, and other debt adjustment strategies.
