McDermott Honored for Education Efforts
Oshkosh, WI, March 21, 2011
J. Thomas (Tom) McDermott was honored March 21 with the Oshkosh Chamber's Education Leadership Award.
The award was given during Celebrate Education, an event sponsored by the Oshkosh Chamber, the Oshkosh Area School District, Mid-Morning Kiwanis, Wisconsin Public Service Corp. and the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation.
McDermott was among exceptional educators, administrators and volunteers honored that evening. After graduating from the 1993 Leadership Oshkosh class, McDermott began volunteering for the Oshkosh Area School District by serving on parent advisory committees and school site councils.
He then decided his talents would be best put to use by serving on the Oshkosh Area School Board. He has served on the board since 2002. McDermott will end his tenure on the board this spring as he has chosen not to seek re-election.
"Tom has proven to be a pragmatic, solution-oriented asset on the board," said Cecil Streeter, education coordinator for the Oshkosh Chamber. "Tom is a positive force for quality."

Swanson Named "Super Lawyer" and Sought After SpeakerOshkosh, WI, December 8, 2010
Attorney Paul Swanson was recognized as a “2010 Wisconsin Super Lawyer” by Super Lawyers Magazine.
Attorneys are nominated by their peers and then evaluated based upon 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. The indicators include such things as verdicts, settlements, experience, honors, special licenses and certifications, position within a law firm, other professional activity and pro bono and community service.
This recognition places Swanson in the top five percent of the practice area he was recognized for, which is Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights. Swanson is considered an expert among his peers and is a sought after speaker on the topic of bankruptcy. Most recently he presented to the 26th annual West Texas Bankruptcy Institute held October 28 and 29 in Lubbock Texas. On December 2, he presented at the 25th Annual Advanced Bankruptcy Seminar in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His topic was: “Riding the Bankruptcy Tsunami”.
Swanson has been Board Certified by the American Board of Certification in both business and consumer bankruptcy since 1993, a distinction shared by only a handful of bankruptcy attorneys in Wisconsin. A partner in his firm, this is the fifth time Swanson has been recognized as a Super Lawyer since 2005.
